UNCERTAIN PIXEL

Uncertain pixel was conceived from the search for meaning in the eventuality of the wider picture a pixel will form. A picture is the process through which the information of a specific position and specific illumination is stored in pixels. The images that we see or record through media are merely fleeting moments captured incidentally, reliant upon the moment’s delicate balance between position and light. Uncertain pixel represents the concept that the pixels constituting a picture were borne out of coincidental relationships; this process has been reconstituted. Using a time lapse approach, light is reborn as the breath of wind by reproducing the silent movement of breath through another energy dimension.
FRAGMENTS OF TIME / Real and imaginary time and Space

Objects in a visual medium share the same space-time by virtue of being displayed in the same frame. This work started from the question of whether the spatial and temporal properties imposed by these visual media truly represent contemporaneous and cospatial existence. This piece decomposes the temporal and spatial information of time lapse images taken by a single camera via displaying them on three separate monitors beyond the confines of a single frame. It gives each monitor a new frame and new flow of time, creating fragments of time in a particular space. At the same time, the positioning of the display monitors and the flow of images show the interrelatedness of the three space-times of the day. The intent of this work was to provoke the viewers to ponder the meaning and significance of space and time while navigating the exhibition, the video, and today’s real flow of time.
ABSENCE OF BREATH

This work starts from the idea that existence is expressed through change. Change manifests through motion and motion requires energy. This video is a paradoxical portrayal of landscapes without energy. The original video was of a busy cityscape during sunset, taken using time-lapse. However, in this piece, the pixel information was superimposed, eliminating motion while preserving the change in light. This leads to an unfamiliar image of abject silence.
불확정 픽셀

불확실한 픽셀은 사진을 구성하는 픽셀의 의미에 대한 고민에서 시작한다. 사진은 어떤 장소의 어떤 상태의 빛의 정보를 픽셀에 담는 과정이다. 우리가 보는 혹은 우리가 기록 매체로 남기는 사진은 순간의 상태와 빛의 조화에 의존하여 구성되는 어떤 한 순간일 뿐이다. 불확실한 픽셀은 사진의 픽셀 구성이 순간의 우연적인 관계에서 탄생한 것이라는 생각으로, 이러한 픽셀 정보를 재구성해 보고자 한다. 또한 타임랩스 영상 기법으로 촬영된 사진들을 이용하여 타임랩스로 접근하는 정중동의 숨결을 다른 에너지 차원의 변화로 재현함으로써 빛은 바람의 숨으로 재탄생한다.
시간의 파편/ 리얼과 가상의 시공간

영상 매체안의 대상들은 같은 프레임에 보여짐으로써 같은 시공간을 공유한다. 이러한 영상 매체가 부여하는 특정 시공간의 속성이 실제 동일한 시공간일지에 대한 고민에서 이 작업은 시작한다. 본 작품은 하나의 카메라로 촬영된 타임랩스 영상을 세 개의 모니터로 보여줌으로써 하나의 프레임을 벗어나게 하여 동일한 시공간 정보를 해체한다. 그리고 각각의 모니터에 새로운 프레임과 새로운 시간 흐름을 부여해 특정 공간에 시간의 파편을 만든다. 하지만 전시 모니터의 위치와 각 영상의 흐름은 다시 세 개의 시공간이 서로 연관돼 있음을 의미한다. 이는 전시장, 영상, 그리고 실제 그날의 시간 흐름을 고민하며 시공간은 무엇일까 생각해 볼 수 있는 시간을 보여주고자 함이다.
숨의 부재

존재는 변화로 표출된다는 생각에서 본 작품은 시작한다. 변화를 만드는 것은 움직임이고 움직임은 에너지가 있어야 한다. 본 작업은 에너지가 없는 풍경을 영상으로 보여주는 역설적인 광경이다. 실제 영상속의 풍경은 일몰 시간대의 분주한 도시의 타임랩스 영상이지만, 사진 픽셀 정보를 중첩시켜서 사물의 움직임을 없애고 빛의 변화만 남겨서 숨결이 느껴지지 않는 차갑고 이질적인 이면을 보여준다.
